Message from the President The 35th President Eichi Terao
Rissho University The university, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022, is a historic institution that began as an educational institution of Nichiren Buddhism in 1580 and was fused with the European academic system during the Meiji period. The university has developed into a comprehensive university with 9 faculties, 16 departments, and 7 graduate schools, while promoting human resource development through a broad liberal arts education and practical education.
After entering the university, each student will be able to hone his or her individuality and enhance their expertise while developing the basic skills for lifelong growth. The two campuses in Shinagawa and Kumagaya are both developing as bases open to the community, and are also active in cooperative projects with companies, local governments, and other entities outside the university. Students will be able to fully demonstrate the results of their studies in a variety of fields. It is the university's responsibility to create various footholds for a meaningful and fruitful student life, from academics to extracurricular activities and job hunting, and we will support all students from all angles.
We encourage you to take on the challenge of learning a wide range of subjects without limiting yourself to the studies in your own department. For example, you may find clues to solving issues facing society by combining knowledge from various fields, such as "Buddhism x welfare," "literature x data science," "economics x data science," "management x psychology," "law x environment," and so on. There are things that you could not see if you only studied one field of study. The joy of new discoveries comes from connecting dots that you thought had nothing to do with you, and you can feel the real thrill and "fun" of learning. Learning in a multidisciplinary environment is full of stimulation and opportunities to accumulate new insights.
