About application/procedures

Eligibility

Q. I am currently enrolled at another university, etc., but is it possible to apply as a non-degree student?

A. Yes, it is possible. If you are currently studying at another university, etc., please submit a certificate of enrollment from that other university when completing the enrollment procedure.

Q. Is it possible to take this course at the same time as the Open Course for Working Adults?

A. Yes, it is possible.

Q. I am currently enrolled at Rissho University. Can I apply to become a non-degree student in order to take courses in other faculties?

A. We do not accept applications from non-degree students from our university.

Subjects taken

Q. Can I take courses regardless of my grade level?

A. Yes, it is possible. However, due to the nature of the subject, there are some subjects in which you may not be permitted to take the course because you have not completed the prerequisite subjects or basic subjects.

Q. Is it possible to take courses offered at the Shinagawa campus and courses offered at the Kumagaya campus at the same time?

A. Yes, it is possible. When applying, please submit your documents to the academic affairs department of the campus where you will be taking many courses. However, please note that non-degree students are not eligible for student discounts.

Q. Is it possible to change or add lectures that I would like to attend after submitting my application?

A. The courses you have applied for will be approved after being reviewed by the faculty or graduate school, so you cannot change or add courses after submitting your application. Please carefully check the course content in the syllabus before applying.

Q. Is there a fee for undergoing a university-sponsored health check?

A. As a general rule, consultations are free of charge. However, if you are not enrolled as a non-degree student, you may be charged the cost of a medical examination.

Q. Is there an expiry date for the health certificate?

A. For diagnosis results issued by an external testing institution, please submit the results within 3 months from the date of issue.

About timetable and syllabus

Q. When can I view the timetable and syllabus?

A. The timetable and syllabus will be available for viewing in early March (spring term) and mid-August (autumn term). Please check the information page for non-degree students.

Regarding undergraduate screening and notice of acceptance/rejection

Undergraduate examination

Q. Are there any written tests required when applying for non-degree students?

A. In principle, there is no written exam, and only a document review is conducted by the Faculty Council and Graduate School Committee. However, some faculties may require international students to take a short test.

Q. If I am unable to take a course as a result of the faculty review, can I register for a substitute course?

A. No. Additions or changes to courses will not be permitted after the undergraduate or graduate school review.

About tuition fees

Q. Is it possible to pay the tuition fee in installments?

A. You will be required to pay each term according to the number of courses you take. Please note that tuition fees cannot be paid in installments each term.

About exams and credit certification

Exam/Results

Q. Do non-degree students also need to take the final exam?

A. Students taking courses can also take the exam. Just like regular students, students who meet certain grade evaluation criteria will be given credits.

Q. How will the grades for the courses I take be announced?

A. Results will be announced at the end of the first period (September) and the end of the second period (March).

Q. Can I issue a certificate for the credits I have earned?

A. After earning credits, a transcript can be issued upon application.

A. It is possible to obtain some qualifications such as monk rank.

Q. Can non-degree students also use the student discount?

A.No. Non-degree students are not eligible for student discounts.

Use of campus facilities and equipment

Q. Can non-degree students use the university library?

A. Yes. The non-degree student ID card (ID card) given to those who have completed the enrollment procedures as a non-degree student will serve as the admission card.

Q. Can I use computers on campus?

A. Yes. You will need the non-degree student ID card (ID card) given to those who have completed the enrollment procedures as a non-degree student and the password you provided at the time of application.

Q. Can I use the RIS Corner (Rissho Information Service)?

A.No. We do not provide services for non-degree students at the RIS Corner.
