Major introduction

Clinical Psychology Major

The Clinical Psychology major has been designated as a Type 1 designated graduate school by the Japan Clinical Psychologist Certification Association since April 2005, and provides education with an emphasis on practical learning and research based on various theories of clinical psychology under a compliant curriculum. More than 10 faculty members with clinical psychologist qualifications provide guidance, and a practical research guidance system is in place, with experienced faculty members in various clinical fields such as education, welfare, medicine, industry, and law.

In addition, in order to train professional personnel who have rich humanity and a broad perspective, as well as advanced specialized knowledge and skills, and psychological support workers who are sociable and empathetic, students undergo internships and educational training at the on-campus Center for Psychotherapy and Counseling, as well as off-campus schools, welfare facilities, health care institutions, and educational counseling institutions.

Finally, students who have acquired 30 or more credits, submitted a master's thesis, and passed the examination will be eligible to take the clinical psychologist exam. Some students also aim to deepen their expertise and become researchers after completing the program.

Department of Applied Psychology (Student recruitment will stop from 2024)

The Department of Applied Psychology aims to develop human resources who can contribute to society by promoting education and research based on highly specialized knowledge of psychology or education. This major covers major areas of psychology and pedagogy, such as cognition, behavior, industry, and education, and has a curriculum that emphasizes theoretical and empirical research related to these areas. Based on this curriculum, we place emphasis on learning that combines theory and practical training, and at the same time, we aim to enrich the seminar subjects, and through thorough individual guidance from supervisors, we develop the multifaceted skills necessary to carry out research. In addition, in order to become independent as a researcher or practitioner after completing a master's program, it is important to acquire a wide range of knowledge in modern scientific psychology without being bound by a narrow specialty. For this reason, we have established specialized courses taught by experts invited from outside the university, and students can take these courses.

Through this education and guidance system, we have developed specialized applied psychology skills, pedagogical skills, and industrial psychology skills that can respond broadly and flexibly to globalization, advanced information technology, and a declining birthrate and aging society. etc. can be learned.

Department of Interpersonal/Social Psychology

The Master's Program in Interpersonal and Social Psychology was established in the Graduate Faculty of Psychology in 2012, following the establishment of the Department of Interpersonal and Social Psychology within Graduate School of Psychology in 2011. In addition to specialized subjects that cover a wide range of areas in interpersonal and social psychology (self-interpersonal area, society-culture area), the curriculum also includes skill-based subjects that allow qualified social researchers to obtain the qualification of a specialist social researcher.

In order to respond to diverse needs and interests, we have a large number of specialized faculty members with different research themes in this field who provide detailed research guidance. Through this, we aim to cultivate talented people who can acquire the skills to approach a wide range of social phenomena and social behaviors empirically, as well as advanced and specialized knowledge of interpersonal and social psychology, and who can use this knowledge and skills to deeply understand and solve various problems in the real world.

Psychology major (doctoral course)

The psychology major in the doctoral program combines advanced knowledge and practice in psychology to develop highly specialized human resources who can flexibly respond to the various problems brought about by the declining birthrate, aging population, and advanced information technology society of the 21st century.   2. After completing the master's program, we will train individuals who aim to become researchers and educators in various specialized fields in clinical psychology, applied psychology, and interpersonal/social psychology.

This major consists of three main areas: clinical, applied, and interpersonal/social psychology. Students enrolled in the doctoral program acquire the required credits through three years of individual research guidance, submit a paper to an academic journal based on their chosen research theme, and are eligible to submit a doctoral thesis if it is accepted.
