Faculty of Social Welfare

Faculty overview

Nurturing welfare workers who can envision a bright future

Social welfare involves society as a whole thinking about and working on systems, mechanisms, and activities that enable people to experience the joy and happiness of being alive and live fulfilling lives that are true to themselves.
In Faculty of Social Welfare, students learn about various academic fields from a welfare perspective, and through lectures, exercises, and practical training, they develop empathy, rich humanity, the ability to analyze issues in modern society, and the practical skills to work on social welfare.
The Faculty Faculty of Social Welfare has two departments: the Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Child Education and Welfare.
In the Department of Social Welfare, we aim to develop talented people who understand the values and ethics of social welfare, understand welfare, humanity, society, culture, and education from a broad and comprehensive perspective, and have the imagination to contribute to the realization of a welfare society through practice. The Department of Social Welfare is further divided into the "Social Work Course," which focuses on social welfare studies and teaches a wide range of knowledge and skills related to support, and the "Educational Welfare and Social Design Course," which aims to become a teacher at a special needs school or work in a welfare company.
The Department of Child Education and Welfare aims to produce talented people who can thrive in a variety of fields through education and practice in child education and welfare that is based on a deep understanding of human beings from a comprehensive perspective of education, psychology, and welfare.
The talent that our faculty fosters are "moralists x experts" who can act as leaders in society with new values. Each individual should understand the importance of human relationships and develop empathy and humanity. They should be equipped with the practical skills to accurately analyze and tackle the issues before them. Our goal is to equip students with the "power of imagination" to take part in realizing a welfare society. Here you can learn to become a welfare worker with the power of imagination.

Characteristics of education

The educational concept of the Faculty of Faculty of Social Welfare is to nurture "welfare professionals" with creative thinking. In other words, we aim to nurture human resources who have the ability to analyze contemporary social issues, empathy, rich humanity, and practical skills to tackle welfare issues. This is the common goal of both the Department of Social Welfare (Social Work Course, Educational Welfare/Social Design Course) and the Department of Child Education and Welfare.
In the Department of Social Welfare, students study to obtain national social worker qualifications (qualification to take the exams for certified social workers and certified psychiatric social workers) and special needs school teaching licenses, and by enhancing their practical skills through a wide range of practical training programs (social work practicum and teaching practicum) and volunteer activities, we cultivate human resources with a welfare mind and the "imaginative power" to design society.
In the Department of Child Education and Welfare, students study towards various qualifications related to children, such as nursery school teacher, kindergarten teacher, and elementary school teacher. From the first year, students participate in practical training by visiting facilities, thereby cultivating practical skills in an environment similar to that of educational and welfare facilities, and cultivating human resources with rich sensibilities and the creativity to foster the healthy development of children.
Based on this, Faculty of Social Welfare is implementing the following four initiatives:

  • Basic exercises and seminars that solidify the foundation for a rich student life

In Faculty of Social Welfare, the Department of Social Welfare offers "Basic Seminar on Social Welfare" and the Department of Child Education and Welfare offers "Basic Seminar", which are compulsory for all students from the first year. In order to allow students to quickly acquire a university learning style immediately after enrollment, not only do they learn the basics of research, including surveys, reports, and presentations, but they also function as a place to receive individual consultations, advice, and guidance for university life. They are positioned as a basic place to enrich campus life.

  • Education that “learns” from a welfare perspective, changing the way “teaching” is done

Welfare refers to providing the necessary support for people to live better lives. This idea is naturally required in educational settings as well. Our faculty views education as ``human development'' rather than ``school education,'' and offers courses related to education from a social welfare perspective, such as ``General Education for Persons with Developmental Disabilities'' and ``Music I and II.'' By taking these courses, you can obtain a special needs school teacher's license in the Department of Social Welfare, and an elementary school or kindergarten teacher's license in the Child Welfare Education Department.

  • An interdisciplinary academic field that broadens your knowledge and horizons.

Social welfare studies involve a wide variety of subjects, including biology, society, psychology, law, bioethics, and religion. One of the features of this faculty is that students can acquire a broad range of knowledge and multidisciplinary understanding by studying multiple academic fields across the board. To achieve this, we have placed faculty members from interdisciplinary fields in a well-balanced manner, and students can receive direct guidance from full-time faculty members. This truly brings together the power of Rissho University University, and is the perfect environment for people who can thrive in the real world.

  • Practical training and volunteering to hone highly practical welfare skills

Our faculty offers a wealth of practical training and seminar programs in both departments. In order to provide students with opportunities to utilize the welfare and education skills they have acquired in the field, we are building close relationships with nearby educational sites and creating an environment in which we can accept on-site training. In addition to the regular curriculum, the faculty operates the ``Childcare Support Center Bealis'' and the ``Volunteer Center,'' which provide volunteer opportunities to students.

Objectives related to human resource development and other educational and research objectives / Educational goals / Three policies

Faculty of Social Welfare has the objectives of training talented individuals who can analyze contemporary social issues, cultivate empathy and rich humanity, and practical skills to tackle welfare issues, and who can play an active role in various fields of society, as well as to conduct the education and research necessary for such purposes.

In order to achieve this, we have established and published the following integrated set of "Educational Objectives," "Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding (Diploma Policy)," "Policy for Composing and Implementing the Educational Course (Curriculum Policy)," and "Policy for Accepting Students (Admission Policy)," as follows:
