Institute of Psychology

Institute of Psychology actively tackles various psychological problems in society

In modern society, people's values are becoming more diverse, and it is not uncommon for people to feel and think differently about the same facts. This creates mental conflicts and stress that erode mental and physical health. Furthermore, the gap between generations in values, ways of looking at things, and ways of feeling is widening compared to the past.

For this reason, there are high expectations for a psychological approach, and Institute of Psychology, which was established at the same time as Faculty of Psychology in 2002, has been engaged in a wide range of research and investigations related to psychology, as well as technological development, with the aim of contributing to society.

The researchers' research areas are wide-ranging, including perceptual and cognitive psychology, learning and linguistic psychology, emotional and personality psychology, neuro-physiological psychology, social, group and family psychology, developmental psychology, psychology of disabled people and disabled children, health and medical psychology, welfare psychology, educational and school psychology, judicial and criminal psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, psychiatry, experimental social psychology, interpersonal social psychology, traffic psychology, evolutionary psychology, animal psychology and pedagogy.

Individual research is diverse and responds to social issues and needs. In particular, collaborative research is actively promoted to disseminate research results to society. Research presentations are held four to five times a year, and participants are expanded to include graduate students, with an emphasis on sharing research results widely. Researchers' papers are published not only in research journals within the university, but also in specialist journals outside the university. Open lectures are held in collaboration with other faculties, and social contribution activities are also partially carried out through the mass media.

Faculty of Social Welfare The Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Children's Education and Welfare are located at the University of Tokyo. While being aware of the collaboration between these two departments, we have been thinking of promoting joint research and discussions focusing on the identity and development of each department. To this end, we are committed to further deepening the purpose of our research by rooting the "way of perceiving human beings and its research" that we have been working on in the community, and by attempting to disseminate it widely to society.

Institute of Economic Studies

Introduction to research activities

Rissho University Institute of Economic Studies was established with the objective of promoting research in economics and related social sciences. Currently, in response to the curriculum reform of the Faculty of Faculty of Economics at Rissho University (1995), the institute aims to conduct research in a wide range of fields, including the world economic system, environmental economic system, and information, language, and culture systems.
Its main activities are to support the research activities of its researchers, whether they are conducting collaborative or individual research, and to publish the results of their work (research series publications) and to hold lectures.
The Institute aims to meet the demands of the times by working with researchers from a wide range of fields to comprehensively and three-dimensionally grasp and elucidate the complex, diverse, and ever-changing times we live in. At the same time, we aim to produce results that will stand the test of time by seeking out the truth of the past and present that underlies reality, without being distracted by its diversity and fluctuations.

Institute of Humanistic Sciences

Introduction to research activities

This institute was founded in 1959, and has been in existence for over 40 years now. At the time, we had a very small budget, and looking back at it today, which is far from satisfactory, it feels like a different era.
This is clearly reflected in the scale of the journal it publishes. The first issue of Rissho University Institute of Humanistic Sciences was published in March 1964, but it was only 26 pages long, and the second issue, published in June of the same year, was only 28 pages long. The fifth issue (1967) had just barely reached 40 pages. Looking at the number of themes published today, we can see that they covered a wide range of topics across almost all of the departments and courses in Faculty of Letters, so the burden was being placed on the number of pages of written manuscripts.

It was only from issue 6 (1967) that we finally began to see an improvement in content, when the number of pages jumped to 110, a figure that compares favorably with the current average of 140. What has been particularly pleasing in recent times is the influx of requests for articles to be published, which is a stark difference from the past, when it seemed like there was a great deal of difficulty in collecting manuscripts.
Over our 40-year history, there have been many enthusiastic proposals, and the current way in which we are run is the result of our efforts to realize these. Also, given that we have something to be proud of in the many results of interdisciplinary collaborative research, we would like to find ways to demonstrate the potential of the Faculty Faculty of Letters which is a comprehensive faculty that brings together the various departments and majors of each faculty.
Due to the nature of the institute, there are no dramatic events, but in fiscal year 1992, we published the 30th issue of the Annual Report and published a list of past paper titles. Looking at it all, it is hard not to be overwhelmed by emotion. Some of the authors have passed away, and some have retired, and I can picture the unique words and actions of each of them.
