When constructing facilities on the Kumagaya campus, archaeological excavations are carried out as required by law (the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties), and valuable materials have been unearthed.

In particular, the excavation of pottery from the early Jomon period (approximately 10,000 to 6,000 years ago) has attracted attention as extremely valuable material in exploring the origins of the pottery culture in Saitama Prefecture. In addition, remains of settlements from the late Kofun period (approximately 1,500 years ago) to the Heian period (approximately 1,100 years ago) and ruins from the Edo period have also been excavated.

Rissho University Kumagaya Campus Archaeological Research Office, which is in charge of the survey, is a research institute that was established ahead of other universities and serves as a pioneering example of similar facilities at national and private universities, serving as a reference for other universities.
