According to Kaimokusho (Liberation from Blindness), which he wrote in Sado where he was sent into exile, he had been driven to practice a way of life that would contribute to society as a true practitioner of Buddhism by “Three Vows” he took when he was young, namely to become the pillar of Japan, the eyes of Japan, and the vessel of Japan. Inspired by these words, Tanzan Ishibashi, our 16th President, rephrased them in a modern style to create the Founding Spirit of Rissho University.Those who study at our institution are expected to embody the Rissho Spirit, acquire knowledge and skills suited to the times, and contribute to human society.
